How your data is handled
PATCH GEN runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no login, no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts.
Your Rack folder. When you pick it, the browser gives the page read-only access for this visit. The page opens only each
plugin's plugin.json and keeps four things from it: the plugin's name, its version, and its modules' names and tags.
It never opens plugin code, presets, samples, your patches, settings or anything else. In Firefox and Safari the browser hands the
page a list of every file in the folder (and asks you to confirm an "upload"); nothing is uploaded, and the page ignores all but
the plugin.json files and the module pictures.
Module pictures. If Rack has made screenshots of your modules (screenshots/<plugin>/<module>.png in the
Rack folder), the page shows them in the patch view. They stay in this tab: never uploaded, never saved, gone when you close it.
Without them, the patch view loads each module's picture from the VCV Library
(library.vcvrack.com), so VCV's server sees which module pictures your browser asks for, as when you browse the
Library itself. The page sends it nothing else and no referrer.
Nothing is uploaded. Your library stays in this tab. The only other network requests are for this site's own files: the
page, and the jack data (parts/<plugin>.json) for the plugins you have.
Remember on this device. If you tick it, the plugin list (names and versions only) is saved in your browser's local storage so you don't have to pick the folder again. In Chrome and Edge the browser also keeps the picked folder itself (as a permission, not a copy), so next time one press and the browser's own "allow" opens it again. FORGET deletes both.
The patches. A patch is built and checked in the page, then saved by your browser when you press DOWNLOAD. It holds only module names, knob values and cables: no file paths and no links.
The jack data. It comes from open-source VCV Rack plugins, read on our side. Closed-source and paid plugins are not included. Plugin developers who want their plugin left out, or added, can say so.
